Maybe it’s my mood, lately. Maybe it’s aging. But I’ve been listening to quite a few bands lately who make soothing music. Music that’s easy to listen to before drifting off to sleep, or the perfect panacea for the difficulties of the morning, or that which just goes well with digestion. And the dreamiest of CDs I’ve bought recently is the debut LP from Carrboro, North Carolina group Work Clothes.

The Onion’s A.V. Club doles out the Straight Dope on the factual and logical accuracy of some popular hit songs.
For example, on Young MC’s “Bust a Move”, the writer notes that:
Why would your best friend’s brother choose you as best man over his own flesh and blood? Is Harry just going to be a run-of-the-mill usher at his brother’s wedding while you’re toasting and keeping track of the rings? Also, why would Larry inform you of his family-shaking decision a mere five days before the wedding? It doesn’t make sense.
Why indeed. The list spans 3 decades of pop songs, but what about indie songs? Who’s going to serve as our fact-checkin’ cuz here?
Okay so it took me a little longer to upload just these two tracks. I’m sorry. But I included the two best from Elbow‘s live thing on KCRW Friday morning.

Do not attempt to adjust your headphones.

There is nothing wrong with your hi-fi stereo. The record is not skipping and the speakers are not farting. The sounds you hear are coming from British electro-folk-pop outfit, Tunng as they prepare to reformat your ears.
This FAT64 format will partition your aural canal into equal parts Beta Band, The Books, Erlend Øye, and Lemon Jelly, so sit back and relax. Resistance is futile. And honestly, it’s really kinda juvenile – you’re bigger than that. You’re old enough to know that it’s better to live to fight another day.

You can listen to it on the web by clicking here and choosing your player preference, you could watch the video here, or I’ma try to record some of it and post it up here later tonight, once I’ve gotten home, and you can listen to it then.
