CD Sales vs. Downloads. Which is better?

From a recent Q&A on Weird Al’s site:

Tim Sloane of Ijamsville, MD asks: Al, which of these purchasing methods should I use in order to make sure the most profit gets to you: Buying one of your albums on CD, or buying one of your albums on iTunes?

Weird Al: I am extremely grateful for your support, no matter which format you choose to legally obtain my music in, so you should do whatever makes the most sense for you personally. But since you ASKED… I actually do get significantly more money from CD sales, as opposed to downloads. This is the one thing about my renegotiated record contract that never made much sense to me. It costs the label NOTHING for somebody to download an album (no manufacturing costs, shipping, or really any overhead of any kind) and yet the artist (me) winds up making less from it. Go figure.

Make cents?

HHAH

The kids over at Coudal have a nice little “contest” going on over at their site, Booking Bands. It’s a novel (hah!) conceit – mashing up bands names with famous book titles.

Suggestions from 2006 (((withoutsound))) posts:

  • Catch-22-Pistepirkko
  • In Cold Blood Feathers

But I’d also like to point out that this game can just as easily be played with band names and movie titles

  • They Shoot Band of Horses, Don’t They?
  • Rosemary’s Baby Dayliner
  • Last Yo La Tengo in Paris
  • Toto le Real Heroes

Feelings. Whoa-oa-oa, Feelings.

Once again, Ryan Adams over at goodhodgkins, breaks it down. This time, Visceral Song Moments – when does that Destroyer song make you feel something?  Well,  if it’s European Oils, right around the 2 minute mark.

This is the most incredibly awesome car commercial I have ever seen. The car leaping alone is enough, but cars riding down the stairs on only two wheels? C’mon!

I WANT one of these cars.

Problem is, I think you are required to buy at least two. I mean, have you ever seen one alone?
