Things have gone a bit differently for Jeff Tweedy and Jay Farrar since Uncle Tupelo…
Our Friends Are All Aboard
Drewls’ recent post on Mates of State and Bagheera, got me thinking about other couple bands and The Submarines immediately came to mind. I first read about The Submarines on Music (for Robots) last September when they featured a track from their debut album, Declare A New State! The album is available for download now on iTunes (and will be in stores June 20th) and it’s the perfect music for longer, warmer, sunnier days. Spending your weekend lying in the hammock with The Submarines cranked seems just about right.
However, to say that Jack Dragoneeti and Blake Hazard are a couple is probably a bit duplicitous. They were a couple. But so were Sonny and Cher, Burt and Loni, and Barbie and Ken. It’s almost impossible to think about one without the other.
I’ve long been a fan of Dragonetti, aka Jack Drag, his lo-fi approach to psych-pop just seems to work with his Mark Oliver Everett-like delivery. Hazard, who was in Star Hustler with Jason Hatfield before releasing a solo album in 2002, has a voice that falls somewhere between Tanya Donnelly and Liz Phair.

saw them at the Viper Room last night…really good, fuck ups and all.
btw, both had wedding rings on, let the relationship questions continue.
These 3 tracks crept up on me in my shuffle. I’ve heard them now a few times, but now I have to buy this album. Geez, June 20th, hurry up already!
